in an effort to share a bit more about myself (pictured with my amazing sister), here's my adaption of george ella lyon's "where i'm from":
i am from secret passwords and making potions
from barefoot summers and dad's laughter filling the air.
i am from the heart of america, making itself new again.
from singing along to the 90's, blaring on the radio.
i am from dreaming big dreams, creating my own adventure,
and taking the long way home.
i'm from "but i'll love you forever..." ("mom! you already will!")
from stubborn and hard-working,
joyful and life-giving.
where brothers are your hero and sisters your best friend.
i am from my high school friendships.
from long distance, handwritten letters, and reply to all emails.
i am from young life camp.
from meeting jesus and life to the full--
and eventually my husband,
the one i get to begin and end my days with.
i am from good food and even better company,
international adventures and the pleasure of coming home.
from an old trunk filled with tear-stained, messy journals,
exclaiming my prayers of thankfulness:
"i can't believe i get to live this life."
