asheville, nc

go ahead and add this to the ever-expanding list of places where i could totally live...

some of you lucky ones already know this, but in case you don't i'm here to tell you: asheville is awesome..

ruff & i stopped here on our way to kansas city and spent a day and a half hanging out around the city with his lovely family.

and of course, we couldn't come all the way to asheville and not see the biltmore estate. ruffin's aunt is a tour guide, so we got some of the inside scoop on this place--pretty neat. basically, george vanderbilt's grandfather got into the shipping industry at it's prime and made gobs and gobs of money (which i'm sure is why my dad got into it...without the same luck). one of his sons inherited the company and doubled its profitability. and then he died and made his son, george vanderbilt crazy wealthy. like richer than bill gates. and his job? to spend his inheritance. sounds like a pretty sweet gig to me! so he did, partly by building this house.

built in SIX years BY HAND in the late 1800s.

had to get some alphie loving since it was right around recruitment time...love me some adpi's.

leaving the biltmore, these guys were calling us home to the good ole sunflower state

ruffin's cousin, natalie, is the manager at tupelo honey, and let me tell you: this was one of the best breakfasts of my LIFE. it's worth the drive just to eat here.

natalie showed us a good time that night--some pizza and local brew, followed up by live bluegrass in a park downtown, and some amazing chocolate truffles to end the night.

we had so much fun and i'm already looking forward to the next time we can sneak into asheville. after going through some of these posts, i see this is probably a lot more about our meals than anything else. maybe i should re-name the blog "libby & ruffin eat their way across the country..."
