junk in my trunk

hi guys! so i need some help. my mom found this trunk for me at a garage sale ages ago (as in when i was in 5th grade and obsessed leopard print everything ages ago...), and i love it. it is unique, has character, and perfectly holds all of my old journals and notes i can't part with.

but. let's be honest here: it's seen some better days.

and again, honest. i'm totally clueless as far as how to give it a facelift.

the black that you see is painted metal. the creamy is some kind of faux crocodile skin or something, so there's a bit of texture. there's also the wood beams and gold...ornaments?
what do you call those things anyway?

i'd love to paint it and somehow line the inside with something a bit more modern
and a bit less english rose garden. but please: advice.

what colors where? go all one color? keep the wood as is?
please tell me i can paint those gold thingies.
what kind of paint do i need to use?
how does one go about painting a trunk--do i have to prime?

seriously though, i'm going to have to beg ask for more than the average .5 comments
on this post. tell me what you think! and thanks in advance :)

  2. What about some sort of prayer trunk? Collaged verses on antiqued paper? Or on map backgrounds to remind you of your own missionary heart?

  3. Bring it to KC...that will make it beautiful no matter what else you do to it!!!!
