no, this is not a post about politics--but i laughed when i saw that was the tagline of d.c.'s license plates.
we had a GREAT weekend in d.c. with some awesome friends. we stayed with our friend craig & his wife (and our new friend!) sarah. craig was an intern with us at lost canyon the crazy fun summer we met. every year since when may rolls around i get a little depressed realizing i won't get to re-live that summer at this place.
after getting in on friday evening, we had an almost obama sighting (that turned out to be a life-size cardboard cutout with people all around it taking pictures...almost, right?), ate some pizza in downtown arlington, walked around on the pier of the potomac river, and then went to a park right in front of the landing strip for reagan airport--i swear i could almost touch the planes as they were descending if i jumped high enough. it was crazy. and ruffin being ruffin and having a little-kid like fascination with planes, was so excited to be there.
on saturday, we found the potential of our sweat glands. it was crazy hot, but we had a great time checking out the national cathedral...gorgeous.
our amazing hosts...
and yes, we are dorks.
to try to get out of the heat, we went to the smithsonian natural history museum in the afternoon and i'm pretty sure we saw every boy scout in the country. the place was infested. but, as a lot of you know--really cool museum.
we went to see some of the monuments at night, which was cooler in both meanings of the word, and it was really neat. we saw the washington monument, lincoln (my favorite), vietnam, and WWII. i hadn't seen the WWII memorial before, and in the registry i found james e. howard, my grandpa's best friend in the war who literally died in his place, and who my dad is named after. hard to find words.
i'll leave you on a lighter note...sarah and i decided we needed to do handstands on the washington monument.
