laundry in the winter...

sorry to interrupt ruffin's birthday, but i also just downloaded this picture and it made me laugh, and i thought i'd share.

this, my friends, is what happens to clothes after i wash them. first, let's go ahead and define "wash" indian-style: get a bucket. fill it half way with water (that looks dirty when it's coming out but it's only going to get worse). put some powdered laundry soap, throw in some clothes, soak it for a while. get another bucket and fill it half way with "clean" water. squeeze clothes. rinse in new bucket. squeeze clothes and wring out excess water. try to straighten out some wrinkles.

and since it's winter here (though we aren't buried under a foot of snow like kansas is...), it's faster to hang it on all of our cupboards inside our room, turn our ceiling fan on high, and close the door.

it's really pretty hilarious. it wasn't so hilarious the first time i was doing laundry, and i hadn't figured out the cupboard trick--instead, i hung all of our clothes out to dry on this laundry stand. and then i walked away. and heard a crash. and came back to find the laundry stand crumpled to the floor and all of our laundry laying on the muddy floor.

it actually doesn't bother me too much, but i've also only done laundry twice. and i do know that when i get back to the states, i am going to kiss the first washer and dryer i find. (and throw in all of our suitcase that will be smelling r-a-n-k by then!)
