our friend selema brought hella and i a gift a couple weeks ago: fabric to make our very own salwar kameez, a typical indian outfit that she wears daily.
it was a super sweet gesture. and since early on, she always saw me wearing yellow (i only brought one jacket...and it's pale yellow), she found a bright yellow one for me, and an even brighter color combination for sweet little hella.
so we went to the tailor, got fitted, and a week later, picked it up. selema is always calling me a hollywood actor (reason why is beyond me, but i'll blame it on the blonde hair), and she actually told the tailor that i'm in india to shoot an english movie. she's hilarious.
so the day we've been waiting for: our indian photo shoot! she even brought us bindis.
since northeast indians look very asian, she told hella like she looks like a true northeast indian. and she told me that if only i would dye my hair, and put dark contact lenses in my eyes, i would look like a true indian, too. (right...)
the pants are particularly crazy, and though the tailor did measure my waist,
the pants still inspired me to do my very own slim-4-life picture.
so there you have it! i have an indian outfit.
i honestly expected to pick my own out early on in the trip, but since most of the
people we got to know and hang out with wear western clothes, i didn't bother.
i think sari's are absolutely gorgeous,
but are way too intimidated by them to actually get one made for myself
(not to mention the 8 yards of fabric would take up some precious suitcase real-estate).
