so she did something about it, and started a school.
we have so loved getting to know her and the kids she has helped raise and educate for the past 3 years. she has 10 boys that she teaches monday-saturday. 10 boys that can't go to public school. 10 boys that were living on the streets. 10 boys that now have access to education, daily meals, and showers. 10 boys that now also know a lot more about jesus. they all have families they come from, and also have a new family between each other and this friend of ours.
out of respect for her concern about published pictures on the internet of her boys, this is a photo-free post. i just wanted to share about one of the things we most look forward to each week: visiting this school and playing games, sharing stories, teaching lessons, and getting to know each other.
they are bright, funny, playful, creative, and artistic. they are so much more than the 'slum kids' that they were once labeled. and it's been a pleasure to hang out with them each week!
we're a little sad to only have one more time to visit with them, but are so encouraged by the work our friend is doing to give them a brighter future. (cheesy education slogan--but seriously. it's true.)
