the other night on skype, i casually mentioned to my sister on skype that we couldn't make it to church this sunday because it started raining right when we were going to leave.
she noted how funny that sounded from the american perspective. in the us: you grab an umbrella and make sure you aren't wearing your blue suede shoes, hop in your car, and you're fine and dandy.
in india: this is what it looks like when it rains (captured by ruffin a week ago, on the main road by our house.)

so it isn't impossible to leave the house...but it's impossible to come back dry. and it takes 2-3 x longer to get anywhere. and is at least 2 x the price.
